Bahia’s Rehabilitation Journey at Amana Healthcare Bahrain

Following a stroke and serious respiratory complications, Bahia came to Amana Healthcare Bahrain with complex medical and rehabilitation needs. She required mechanical ventilation through a tracheostomy, received nutrition through a feeding tube, and was unable to move independently.

In this patient story, Bahia and members of her care team share how intensive, personalized inpatient rehabilitation, coordinated medical and nursing care, and a warm, home-like hospital environment supported her recovery and functional independence.

From Medical Dependence to Greater Independence

Bahia’s journey brought together care across respiratory support and post-acute rehabilitation. Her multidisciplinary team worked around her individual needs and goals, with a focus on safely reducing her dependence on medical devices and helping her return to daily life.

Her personalized treatment and rehabilitation program included:

  • Close medical follow-up and management of her complex health needs
  • Respiratory care and a structured process to wean her from mechanical ventilation
  • Gradual reduction and complete removal of the tracheostomy
  • Nutrition and swallowing support to progress from tube feeding to a normal diet by mouth
  • Physiotherapy to improve strength, movement, mobility, and walking
  • Rehabilitation nursing and day-to-day support
  • Support to rebuild independence in personal care and activities of daily living
  • Family involvement and discharge planning to support her return home

Breathing Independently and Eating Normally

With coordinated care, Bahia was successfully weaned from mechanical ventilation. Her tracheostomy was gradually reduced and then removed completely.

Her nutrition was also closely monitored and progressed step by step, from liquids to pureed food and finally to a normal diet. Her feeding tube was removed once she was able to eat safely by mouth.

Regaining Movement and Daily Independence

When Bahia began her journey at Amana Healthcare Bahrain, she had very limited mobility. Through intensive rehabilitation and physiotherapy, she progressed to walking with a frame under supervision.

She also became able to care for herself and complete daily activities independently with minimal supervision. Her progress supported a safe discharge home.

A Hospital That Feels Like Home

Bahia describes how she previously felt afraid in hospital settings, but that her experience at Amana Healthcare Bahrain felt different. She speaks with appreciation about the doctors, nurses, assistants, dietitians, and wider team who followed up with her throughout her stay.

For patients and families facing a complex recovery journey, this sense of reassurance can make a meaningful difference. At Amana Healthcare Bahrain, care is designed around clinical needs as well as the patient and family experience, helping patients feel safe, welcomed, and supported throughout rehabilitation.
